"During discussions, respect other students' comments, opinions, and ideas. When possible, make statements like, "I agree with John, and I also feel that ..." or " I disagree with Sara. She made a good point, but I feel that ..." or " I think Victor made an excellent observation, and it made me realize..."Each week we would love to have someone (besides Dave and I) offer up a question or two for the group. As you begin reading let us know if you think of a question that you would like to ask the whole group. Email it to one of us and we will add it the the questions each week.

I think we should have set rules for the school and then each grade level have a few general rules that they use on a regular basis. I let my students generate the rules for our own room. I ask them to think of ways to be happy and stay safe and learn a lot in the room and then they come up with the rules for the way they want to have that happen. I really would like that to continue in my own room. It shows ownership for their own behavior in the classroom. It works well for my class.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I can tell, I am the only high school teacher participating. If I am incorrect, please let me know. I think it would be terrific if each school developed certain politeness-type standards specific for the students in a particular building. I know we have district rules, but they are rather broad. These could be more specific. For example, students at the high school are expected to remove their hats.
