Welcome to Ron Clark book study- The Essential 55

Thanks for signing up for this book study. Whether you are taking it for Ashland Credit, CEU's or just to be a part of the book study, I am glad you decided to join in.

Each week Dave and I will post 3 or more questions from the portion of the book that we just read. Please respond to each of those questions along with make a comment on what 5 other people say. When commenting on what other people have to say, keep in mind ...

-Ron Clark - Rule #4-
"During discussions, respect other students' comments, opinions, and ideas. When possible, make statements like, "I agree with John, and I also feel that ..." or " I disagree with Sara. She made a good point, but I feel that ..." or " I think Victor made an excellent observation, and it made me realize..."

Each week we would love to have someone (besides Dave and I) offer up a question or two for the group. As you begin reading let us know if you think of a question that you would like to ask the whole group. Email it to one of us and we will add it the the questions each week.

Thanks again for participating. I hope you enjoy the book study and feel that you grow professionally from participating.

Thanks,
Vickie

  1. Do you want us to only post as a follower or will you add each of us as a contributor from your end?

  2. Danae,
I sent you an email this morning so you are a contributor. You should be able to set that up now. Thanks :)

  3. I think we should have set rules for the school and then each grade level have a few general rules that they use on a regular basis. I let my students generate the rules for our own room. I ask them to think of ways to be happy and stay safe and learn a lot in the room and then they come up with the rules for the way they want to have that happen. I really would like that to continue in my own room. It shows ownership for their own behavior in the classroom. It works well for my class.

  4. As far as I can tell, I am the only high school teacher participating. If I am incorrect, please let me know. I think it would be terrific if each school developed certain politeness-type standards specific for the students in a particular building. I know we have district rules, but they are rather broad. These could be more specific. For example, students at the high school are expected to remove their hats.
